According to the court’s information, on April 1, 2023, in the afternoon hours, one of the suspects entrusted his 9-year-old child to the supervision of his friend so that they could go hunting in the outskirts of Hidasnémeti. For this, he gave the little boy his working hunting weapon, which he had a license for.
After a short time, the child shot the gray wolf, which was highly protected and had a conservation value of HUF 250,000, and then put the body into the father’s car with the other suspect. The animal’s collar was cut off with the 4,000-euro transmitter attached to it and thrown into the Hernád River.
The actions of the two adult men – if they are proven guilty – may be suitable for establishing the crime of damaging nature and endangering a minor. In the case of one of them, the crime of misusing a firearm and vandalism causing greater damage can be established. The investigation is still ongoing, additional data needs to be collected, the court emphasizes.
According to the court’s opinion, due to the amount of the punishment that can be imposed, there is a risk of escaping and hiding, and it should also be feared that the evidence would be jeopardized if the suspects were released.
The District Court of Miskolc did not see an opportunity to apply a milder coercive measure, and ordered the arrest of the accused until September 4, 2023. The order is not final.
