- The journalist was facing two years in prison
- When Zbigniew Ziobro found out about the case, he ordered it to be withdrawn and canceled
- However, the court still had to agree to the redemption
Podolski describes the Pomeranian sex scandal of the “teenager hunter” from the beginning, first as a journalist of “Reporter” and then of Onet. Earlier, he had two suits: one (civil) with a company associated with Marcin T., the other (criminal) was brought against him by “Krystek”. The journalist came out unscathed from both proceedings and did not stop writing about the case.
In early June, he revealed in an article “How I became a bandit for an article about» Krystek «and Marcin T.”that another trial was brought against him by Agnieszka Nowicka, deputy of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz District Prosecutor’s Office, after a written denunciation by Joanna Łaguna-Popieniuk, vice president of the District Court in Gdańsk. It was about the alleged dissemination of information from the investigation into the sex scandal, despite the fact that Mikołaj Podolski wrote and edited information from the files, for which he had been previously authorized by the court to review.
The case caused a lot of controversy. Two days after the announcement, the journalist received a call from the Minister of Justice.
– Minister Zbigniew Ziobro informed me by phone that he had read the files of my criminal case and that he had ordered it to be discontinued. He apologized to me that this had happened and promised me that he would try to explain why it happened. He assured him that he really wanted to clarify the case of “Krystek” to the end – reported Podolski.
More about the journalistic investigation of Mikołaj Podolski in the case of “Krystek”, the pressures and threats at his address, as well as the shocking scenes of the sex scandal can be read in the book “Teenager Hunter”, which has been available for purchase in stationary and online bookstores for several days.
The indictment was already in court, so simply withdrawing it and canceling it would not do anything. For the journalist not to be punished, the District Court for Kraków Śródmieście, to which the case was referred, had to agree. Onet’s editorial office was located in the capital of Małopolska when the article was published.
The lawyers representing Mikołaj Podolski received information that the Krakow court did it without much problem.
– The basis for the discontinuation of the criminal proceedings was the obvious lack of grounds for accusation for the alleged disclosure of information from the investigation, which was finally confirmed by the prosecution itself, withdrawing and withdrawing the indictment – says attorney Mateusz Ostrowski from Kochański i Partnerzy law firm.
– I am ready to go to jail at any time, if it helps in the fight against child sexual abuse, but I would prefer not to be convicted in such a stupid case – comments Podolski. – I hope that now the prosecutors from the Tri-City will deal with the thorough investigation of the case of “Krystek”, and not chasing the girl he raped or dragging me to the courts – he acknowledges.
