During the court session, Artur Tovmasyan pleaded not guilty to extortion and receiving a large bribe.
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has chosen a measure of restraint for the head of the Kharkiv Regional Council Artur Tovmasyan in the form of a bail of almost 3 million hryvnias. This became known on Thursday, August 5.
During the court session, the lawyer asked to release Tovmasyan under a personal obligation, and the prosecutor’s office insisted on a measure of restraint in the form of a bail of 4 million hryvnias. The defense called this amount “exorbitant” and stated that Tovmasyan did not have that kind of money. As a result, the court granted the petition of the prosecutor’s office in part and assigned a bail of 2,996,400 hryvnias.
Artur Tovmasyan himself did not admit his guilt in extortion and receiving a bribe.
“I don’t admit my guilt, because I know for sure, I didn’t take this money. And the things that the prosecutor said that money was transferred to me, some alcoholic beverages, this is completely untrue,” Tovmasyan said.
Wednesday eve Artur Tovmasyan was informed about the suspicion in receiving more than 1 million hryvnia in bribes. For the same case his deputy was previously detained – Andrey Malysh. Officials with their accomplice extorted money from the director of the KP so that he would not be fired from his post.
The court sent Malysh into custody with the alternative of paying 4.75 million hryvnia bail. On July 29, the required amount was deposited and he was released.
