The former minister was accused of causing damage to the state in the amount of $ 30 million due to his decree to reduce port dues.
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court acquitted former Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan in the case of reducing port dues. The judge announced the verdict on Monday, October 18.
“The court made the decision of Omelyan Volodymyr Vladimirovich to recognize as not guilty of committing a criminal offense of Part 2 of Art. 211 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and to acquit in connection with the absence of corpus delicti in his actions,” the judge said.
The verdict can be appealed within 30 days.
According to the investigation, in December 2017, Omelyan issued an order to reduce all port dues (except for the lighthouse dues) by 20%. One of these fees – administrative – is a profitable part of the state budget, and only the Verkhovna Rada could change its size.
In 2018, due to a decrease in the administrative fee, the budget received only UAH 173.1 million instead of the expected UAH 203.5 million.
The minister himself does not admit his guilt.
Note that in August 2020, the VASU made a decision on the closure of the case on inaccurate declaration by Omelyan due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
