The renovation projects of the central square of Ioannina and the reuse of the Katsika Spiritual Center were presented by the Municipality of Ioannina at an event held in the ground floor hall of the town hall.
These are two major interventions financed by the “Antonis Tritsis” program and upon their completion will contribute to the achievement of the goal of climate neutrality.
Opening the work of the event, the Mayor of Ioannina Dimitris Papageorgiou emphasized that the main objective of the Municipal Authority was to utilize all financial sources by launching important projects.
“This was a challenge for the Municipal Authority but also for the services of the Municipality that work hard to submit even and complete proposals” he noted and thanked the executives of the Technical Services, Planning and Finance Departments as well as all the employees.
The two specific projects are in full progress and so far within the contractual completion time.
The “Katsika Spiritual Center” will be transformed into a multi-venue supporting and promoting cultural creation with venues for theater performances, concerts, screenings and speeches, multiple event halls, exhibition spaces, training rooms and others.
The reconstruction project of Pyrrhos Square aims to create a meeting place friendly to all, combining on the one hand the traditional character of the city and on the other the modern face of the Municipality of Ioannina. Its dominant element will be the fountain system that will be installed and the special lighting.
Vassilis Tsoukanelis, project supervisor, noted that the redevelopment project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024 and so far there are only minor delays in the schedule due to the additional work required to protect the underground parking.
Within the schedule, as the supervisor Vassilis Tsiouris mentioned, is also the reuse project of the Katsika Spiritual Center which was auctioned with the “study-build” system.
During the event, the Mayor’s special advisor Katerina Vini analyzed how the two projects will leave their mark on the city’s path to climate neutrality by 2030.
The projects from the “Tritsis” program
On the occasion of this event, Mayor Dimitris Papageorgiou referred to all the projects of the Municipality that have been included in the “Antonis Tritsis” program and are already in the implementation phase.
In detail, these are the following:
• Maintenance of school units and open sports areas of the Municipality of Ioannita, Budget €4,586,000.00
• Improving the accessibility of the rural road network of the Municipality of Ioannita, Budget €2,910,000.00
• Pre-earthquake inspection of the school units of the Municipality of Ioannita, Budget €51,253.32
• Recycling corners in the Municipality of Ioannita, Budget €1,326,800.00
• Interventions to revitalize the urban environment of the Municipality of Ioannita, Budget €7,160,000.00
Finally, as the Mayor said, the integration decision is expected very soon for the relocation of the Experimental Primary Schools in the area granted by the University of Ioannina.
