The council of the Montreal Metropolitan Community (CMM) unanimously approved the proposal of the mayor of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville Martin Murray for the creation of a working group aiming at the recognition and protection of the Montérégian hills and d’Oka, August 12.
“With climate change threatening our environment and our quality of life more and more, the need to think about the best means to preserve our green spaces and to supervise their development is more pressing than ever,” says Martin Murray. The Monteregian and Oka hills have inestimable emblematic, natural and heritage value for the metropolitan region. We have every interest in protecting them, for us, but above all for future generations. ”
The task force will notably have the mandate of proposing measures to supervise urbanization around the hills in order to take into account the characteristics of the environment while respecting the orientations and objectives of the Metropolitan Land Use and Development Plan (PMAD). .
The working group will be formed in the coming months. Its members will come from municipalities, RCMs, various organizations concerned, civil society as well as the CMM.
Four of the nine Monteregian hills, namely the Royal, Saint-Hilaire, Saint-Bruno and Rougemont mountains (in part), are located on the territory of the CMM, as are the Oka depressions, which are part of a geological formation. older.
