77-year-old Hasan, father of 6 children, and 75-year-old Gülizar Sarıkaya, who live in the Kanuni neighborhood of Kahramanmaraş’s Dulkadiroğlu district, have been married for 55 years. Sarıkaya couple said, “Today’s young people have no tolerance for each other, and separation has become fashionable.”
Gülizar Sarıkaya, who stated that there was poverty in the past, but now there is abundance, but divorces are increasing, said: “I am willing to live with my husband for life. I have 6 children. We had arguments with my wife at times. But we continued to get along. We did not leave our home. We did not abandon our current home.” Young people get divorced as soon as they reach the sixth month. They give a reason and try to separate, they don’t want children. I loved my wife very much, I fell in love and came. When I got married, I harvested crops and carried firewood on my back in the village. I was doing all kinds of work. In the past, there was poverty, now there is abundance, but I still did not stop. “They are getting divorced. I love my wife very much and she loves me very much. Of course, we have fights from time to time and that is the spice of our marriage,” he said.
Hasan Sarıkaya said, “Current separations have become fashionable. There was no abundance like this in our time. Nowadays, they get married and break up immediately. You have to be respectful. You can be rich, you can be poor, but you have to be respectful. In order not to get divorced, they have to respect each other. They shouldn’t get too much debt. They can’t give what they get, they can’t get what they give, they can’t get what they give.” “That’s all there is to it. They don’t appreciate each other,” he said.
