The couple from the “house of horror” fined 12,500 euros for animal abuse

It was the “house of horror”. Twenty dead cats, including 14 frozen kittens, discovered last July in the village of Chaux, north of Belfort… But also 22 cats, seven dogs and four birds, alive but abused, living in darkness“in the middle of garbage and their own excrement,” explained Jessica Vonderscher, public prosecutor, adding that several were sick or injured, without adequate care. “That’s to say, the gendarmes and the mayor couldn’t even enter because it smelled so bad,” said Xavier Garcia, investigator for the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) of Besançon in July.

Arrested, a couple from Territory of Belfort appeared in court this Thursday. The owner of the animals, aged 52, and her companion, were found guilty of mistreatment, illegal possession of animal corpses, and placement in an environment likely to cause suffering.
