France once again positioned itself as the top destination for Spanish vehicle exports in 2021, after receiving 336,052 units, 18.5% of the total number of models produced in Spanish factories, according to data from the 2021 Annual Report of the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac).
Total, Spanish factories exported 1.82 million units to other countries last year, 6.7% less than the previous year, mainly due to the microchip crisis, which hindered the production of new models. This represents 86.8% of the total of 2.1 million vehicles produced on the national territory.

France and then Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Turkey
Germany is positioned as the second most important market for Spanish automotive exports, with 318,536 units, a 17.5% share, ahead of United Kingdom, with 222,696 units (12.2% of the total). follow them Italywith 221,066 vehicles (12.1%) e Turkeywith 84,499 units (4.6%).

Shortage of components
The report points out that the lower production, due to the shortage of components, and the low demand from European markets, it affected the volume of domestic exports and reduced shipments to European destinations which represent 9 out of 10 of vehicles shipped outside Spain, with 1.65 million units.
Mexico, Morocco, Japan …
After Turkey, Mexico (23,844 units, 1.3% of the total), Morocco (20,653 units; 1.1%) and Japan (18,679 units; 1%) were the non-European countries that imported the most Spanish vehicles in 2021, according to the Anfac report.

Europe and then America and Asia
For its part, the American continent received 67,414 vehicles produced in Spain in the last year, 3.7% of the total, while 32,891 units went to Asia, representing 1.8%. Furthermore, Africa was achieved with 3.3% of Spanish exports (59,991 vehicles) and Oceania, with only 0.7%, up to 12,326 units.

1.4 million cars, 8.4% less than in 2020
By vehicle type, Spanish factories exported a total of 1.46 million passenger cars worldwide during the financial year 2021, which represents an 8.4% decline from the previous year; while 320,053 light commercial vehicles (-4.5%) and 45,040 industrial vehicles (+ 65.1%) were sent to other markets.
