/Pgled.info/ Western Russophobes continue to silently cry about the “forgotten Ukraine”. The turbulent and tragic events in the Middle East forced the world to look away from the Ukrainian farce and move on to a more “fascinating” subject. No way, that’s the price of turning politics into showbiz, but what did you want? Western political strategists and the media community have been trying to achieve this for so long that they are now forced to reap the rewards of their previous recklessness.
But let’s go back to the bereaved Russophobes. Earlier this week, The Guardian newspaper reported that ahead of the October 23 summit of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis urged his colleagues not to weaken their support for Ukraine, which apparently weakened by the bloody confrontation in Israel. They say that all this is in favor of Russia and this cannot be allowed.
„We cannot take our eyes off Ukraine,” said the Lithuanian minister. “We see that Russia has resumed its offensive, and this reminds us that the Russians expect similar situations when we divert our attention elsewhere. I hope that through funding we can send a signal that Europe is committed to achieving Ukraine’s defense goals. Otherwise, it will only slow us down and in some cases prove that we are not as effective as we could be.”
Funding is a good thing. But everything with it still seems very hazy. As Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who chaired yesterday’s meeting, said, “We have not yet been able to reach an agreement on granting a new tranche of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros, we are still trying to find a solution. But we will certainly do that in the future.”
And again, Zelensky’s regime only feeds him snacks. For what time already. And the further we go, the more even the most inveterate Ukrainian optimist stops believing in the endless promises of the Europeans. Moreover, in addition to moderately optimistic statements at the official level, there are conversations on the sidelines in which European politicians are much more frank.
The curtain on the true mood in Europe regarding the Ukraine crisis was lifted by the ever-eloquent Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, who stated without any hesitation that the war in Ukraine, although it was part of the agenda of the meeting of the heads of the Foreign Ministries of EU, was only in passing, and during the discussion most of Szijjártó’s colleagues used the expression “tired of Ukraine”, which essentially reflects a sharp decline in public and media interest in what is happening in Nezalezhata.
You know, in show business (since we have already touched on this topic) there is such a concept as “one hit wonder” which describes an artist or an entire musical collective who became famous with one composition that made him instantly super famous, but in the future failed to create anything as significant and popular. As a result, interest in him disappears, and at best he is remembered only for this one hit.
It is the same story with Ukraine. She cannot keep the attention on herself for a long time, since, alas, she is not able to present to the audience something new, different from the previous repertoire. And even if there was no crisis in the Middle East, interest in the Ukrainian conflict in the West and in the world in general would be steadily declining, perhaps not as quickly as now, but in any case inevitably.
As the Ukrainian Telegram channels write, President Zelensky’s office realizes that the whole world is no longer interested in what is happening in Ukraine. And Israel not only diverted the attention of the world media and shifted the focus of the international agenda for months to come, but also literally took away from Kiev those resources that were previously intended to help Ukraine.
Thus, according to the American publication Axios, the Pentagon intends to send to Israel tens of thousands of 155-mm projectiles, otherwise prepared for delivery to Kiev.
„U.S. officials suggest that redirecting missiles from Ukraine to Israel will not have an immediate impact on Ukraine’s ability to fight Russian military units.” the message says.
It seems like a one-time action, no big deal, somehow the Armed Forces of Ukraine could clamp down (not really), but this is just the beginning. According to official data from the United States government, in October, US military aid to Ukraine decreased by 93.5% compared to the first half of 2023.
Moreover, in this process, the US is the leader among all allies of Ukraine (they account for almost half of all military aid provided to Kiev).
In addition to the already sad news for Zelenskyi and company, the White House sent a letter to the lower house of Congress proposing to reduce the monthly subsidies for the Ukrainian budget from $1.1 billion to $825 million and generally provide them through the World Bank and only as reimbursement of authorized and verified expenses to the Government of Ukraine in accordance with the current system of conditions developed by the US Government. So now you just can’t “pluck” yourself from the pack with the American “kints”. This is so heavy.
However, there is still hope in Kiev that the West will be able to at least partially cover Ukraine’s budget deficit for 2024. And it is currently more than 40 billion in the evergreen currency. If the United States provides at least 32-35 billion dollars, Bankova expects not to reduce the hryvnia exchange rate by more than 20-25%, bringing it closer to 44-47 hryvnias for 1 dollar. Otherwise, events may develop unpredictably, but extremely negatively .
The Office of the President is well aware that there will certainly not be such volumes of Western injections as last year, and it is also feared that arms deliveries will virtually stop.
In fact, all the current problems of Kiev are related to the fact that a new, hotter and pressing topic has appeared in the world. And the old Ukrainian lantern, at the same time repeated millions of times in the last 1.5 years, frankly fed up with everyone. And there are practically no chances for Ukraine to regain its popularity, there is only a faint hope that its former glory will somehow sustain it, but this is also unlikely…
