The Country Club, for the first time in its history, has been proclaimed champion of the MGS League 2020-2021. He did so after defeating Atlètic Terrassa (3-6) in the final, in a match played at Can Salas.
A result that makes the new holders of the title accompany Atlètic in the next edition of the Euro Hockey League.
A meeting for the title that began exciting. In just one minute, a clear opportunity to open the scoring in each of the areas. A few first occasions that were transformed into the arrival of the first penalty corner in favor of the Madrilenians. It was in the third of them when the action ended with the signaling of a stroke. An intervention of enormous merit by Marc Calzada, ruined this clear occasion and thus maintained the initial result. A goalkeeper who would save his team again with a point-blank shot that he served in extremis with his foot. However, it was Xero Gasol’s men who would go ahead thanks to the hit of a Marc Escudé (1-0, Minute 15), who led his team to the next period.
Already within the second act, Mario Garín became notorious with a couple of interventions that prevented a second goal for the local team. After the same, the Club would have a new penalty. An omnipresent Calzada took two shots, but could not do the same with a third that Álvaro Tello materialized in the tying goal (1-1, Minute 32). But with time expired, with a similar action but in the opposite area, Pau Cunill transformed the second of the Vallesanos (2-1, Minute 35).
With the return to the field, after crossing the equator, a determining factor would come into play; José Basterra. The international striker would equalize it with a corner penalty that left a new match on Josep Marqués (2-2, Minute 39). A striker, top scorer in the regular league, who would repeat from this same place on the field to overtake those of Pablo Usoz (2-3, Minute 48). It was on the edge of closing this third quarter, when Alejandro De Frutos increased the income after a cross pass from the right flank (2-4, Minute 51).
Full of confidence, the Country Club continued to seek to increase the distance against its rival. Thus, a brilliant offensive action culminated in the fifth; after Ricardo Sánchez’s shot (2-5, Minute 55). However, Atlètic did not give up, forcing situations on the rival area. From one of them, another penalty executed by Pau Cunill discounted for the hosts of the competition (3-5, Minute 59). But already in the last sets, it would be Basterra who hit the Catalan goal, in this way, close the score and confirm the first title for the Country Club (3-6, Minute 67).
