The Councils of the A Coruña area will dissolve the As Mariñas Consortium and create a commonwealth Radio Coruña

The mayors of the As Mariñas Consortium have decided to dissolve this collaboration entity between city councils in the A Coruña area to resume the creation of what will be Commonwealth of the Navy, which had been paralyzed, according to the Consortium itself. The decision comes after the announcement of municipalities such as Cambre and Culleredo that they would leave the Consortium due to discrepancies in relation to its management. Now they intend to promote the Commonwealth, “designed with the intention of providing the quality services demanded by citizens.”

At today’s meeting, held in the A Senra building, in Bergondo, the eight municipalities have agreed that in the commonwealth each municipal government will have a voting system proportional to its population, as reported Potters. This council will be precisely the one with the most votes (37), followed by Culleredo (33). The councils with less weight will be Bergondo, Abegondo and Carral, with thirteen votes each. The municipal controller of Oleiros will also be the controller of the new entity.

Next week the Xestora da Mancomunidade Commission will be convened to approve the statutes of the entity. The agreement will be sent later to the General Directorate of Local Administration of the Xunta and must be ratified by each municipal plenary session.

Mayors and mayors have also agreed to create the Consortium Liquidation Commission, carry out an inventory of assets and set up a List of Jobs followed by a staff stabilization plan so that they are not affected by the change.

The decision opens the port to a new framework for cooperation between city councils in the A Coruña region, which have suffered strong tensions in recent months within the Consortium. The decision of some of them to leave this entity also questioned its continuity in the garbage treatment system of the Nostián plant, promoted and managed by the A Coruña City Council.

Today’s meeting was attended by the President of the Consortium and Mayor of Abegondo, José Antonio Santiso Miramontes, the Mayor of Bergondo, Alejandra Pérez Máquez, that of Betanzos, María Barral, the Mayor of Carral, Javier Gestal, that of Culleredo, José Ramón Riobóo, Oleiros, Ángel García Seoane, Sada, Benito Portela and the first deputy mayor of Cambre, Juan Leirós.
