The Council recommends Arsenal’s admiral, Ignacio Frutos Ruíz, as the Adopted Son of Ferrol

Soon the corporation of the town of Ferrol will recognize three new people who are very relevant in the life or history of the naval city. As reported yesterday by the Council, the mayor, José Manuel Rey, sent this proposal to the speakers of the political groups, which include the publication of the Best Son of the intellectual Benito Vicetto; as the adopted Son of Arsenal’s top admiral, Ignacio Frutos Ruíz; and to name the state of A Malata after Isidro Silveira.

So, through a statement, the local government, in the first instance, explained that The institutional declaration approved last March will be implemented – especially in the regular plenary session on the 25th – to honor the historian and writer from Ferrol on the second centenary of his birth. In fact, in the plenary session mentioned, this proposal from the BNG was made, which included the restoration of Vicetto’s body in the Raiña Sofía park, the renewal of the plaque on the street named, record keeping. a book fair and, finally, an annual wreath laying at his grave on the anniversary of his death.

In this way, once the initiative is approved in this week’s plenary session, Benito Vicetto joins other intellectuals and artists who already have this recognition, such as Xosé Fontenla Leal, Ricardo Carvalho Calero, Gonzalo Torrente Ballester or José González Collado.

Regarding the recognition as the adopted Son of Vice Admiral Ignacio Frutos, Rey Varela justified the proposal based on the “commitment of the army to the civil society of ferrola”, saying that it is always the representative of the Navy “in the social and cultural activities of the city”. In this sense, the consultant emphasized the professional’s support for Ferrol’s application for UNESCO World Heritage status and that, in his own words, he considers himself “another ferrolán of emotion.”

Likewise, the mayor appreciated the involvement of Frutos Ruíz when it came to “Make the project Ferrol Opening to the Sea possible”due to the reduction of the Arsenal wall – what José Manuel Rey described as “a historic debt to the city” -.

Likewise, the local government itself remembered that the name of the Isidro Silveira Stadium is not new, but they tried to change it twice. The first of them dates back to 2010 and came from the Racing de Ferrol board with the aim of paying tribute to one of the main architects of the team’s revival. This initiative did not go ahead after being rejected by Silveira himself. The second, six years later, was encouraged by a group of team fans, but the family rejected it.
