Jakarta –
It’s no secret that servicing a supercar like the Bugatti isn’t cheap. In fact, repairing spark plugs and coils for a Bugatti Veyron is equivalent to the price of a new car.
In a post on the Reddit forum, replacing spark plugs and ignition coil on a Bugatti Veyron costs US$ 20,000. That is equivalent to IDR 293.9 million. That price is enough to buy a new car in the low MPV class, you can even get the highest type.
Uploaded by the Fixitsteven account, the replacement coil packages for the Bugatti Veyron are worth US $ 730 (Rp. 10 million) each. The purchase of the components alone took more than a month.
Meanwhile, one spark plug costs US $ 170 (Rp. 2.5 million). The Bugatti Veyron itself carries a W16 engine, so it requires 16 spark plugs.
Reportedly, the total job of replacing the spark plug and ignition coil cost US$ 20,000 or around Rp 293.9 million. If you look at the photos of the spark plug replacement process, maybe that price is reasonable.
Even if it’s just replacing spark plugs, the process requires special skills and care. Some of the body panels had to be removed. Almost all rear body panels are removed except for the bumper. Later, special rigs were used to allow technicians to stretch out as they worked over the wide but compact engine bay. Several layers of components need to be removed to gain access to the ignition coil and spark plugs.
“The only way to get the coil out was to undo about a hundred zip ties and remove the engine tie from the bracket, while not dropping anything into the engine bay abyss. Even with all that, the 6th and 13th cylinder ignition coils hit other components, so it had to be moved too,” said a mechanic quoted by Carscoops.
Mentioned, a Bugatti mechanic in Miami said that this job is a 40 to 50 hour job that usually requires a machine to do it.
