The Corrida de la fourme, between competition and entertainment

The race of the fourme is dead, long live the Corrida! The Beer Marathon team has taken over the Fourme Days sporting event to bring it up to date.

S am (Montbrisonnais athletic sports) had ended up running out of steam. Since Covid, the Friday evening race, usually opening the Fourme Days, had disappeared. Yes, but that was before. The four merry guys (Jérôme Michon, Guillaume Bay, Nicolas Falatik and Guillaume Gauffroy) decided to bring this event back to life by fully incorporating it into the two days of celebration. The Corrida de la fourme – this is its new name – will take place on Saturday October 5 from 6:30 p.m.

Three courses for children and Corrida

“We wanted to show our attachment to this Montbrison region and prove to those who could still believe it that we are not just here to “eat the cake” without being interested in Forez,” underlines Nicolas Falatik.

The main hesitation ultimately concerned the name of this race. “Corrida”. Some might have thought the event was going to involve bulls. The organizers had to explain to decision-makers that this term is frequently used to describe festive road races.

Four courses are scheduled. From 6:30 p.m. on Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, children born in 2013 and after will launch hostilities on the Piozous race, a 500-meter course. Will follow the Matrus, born in 2011 and 2012, who will have to cover 1,000 m and the Galapiats, born in 2009 and 2010 who will do it over 2.25 km.

At 7 p.m., adults will set off for four 2 km loops in downtown Montbrison (see map) . “A circuit which should make it possible to highlight Montbrisonnais heritage more than what was done previously,” explain the organizers.

Some will come for the pleasure of sharing a sporting moment with friends. Others will be there to set a time. And Nicolas Falatik announces, “it will run very quickly”. Among those registered in the “elite” field are Éliséo Calmard, Samuel Legat, Mathieu Rival and even the Kenyan Gideon-Kipkoech Rutto.

In the evening, a DJ will liven up the Place Montbrisonnaise for free. In the spirit of the Beer Marathon, hoppy, non-alcoholic drinks and Côtes du Forez will flow freely and will accompany the portions of fourmiflettes sold on the stands. This should properly establish the Corrida de la Fourme in these two days of festivities.
