The coronavirus would have its origin in the Chinese fur industry

The origin of the Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus is found probably in the Chinese fur industry, according to German epidemiologist Christian Drosten, director of the virology department at the Charité university hospital in Berlin and advisor to the federal government during the pandemic. “I have no proof with the exception of the proven origin of Sars-1 and this is a virus of the same species. Viruses of the same species do the same things and often have the same origin, ”says Drosten in the Swiss online magazine ‘Republik’.

An infectious wave from China with a new pathogen caused some 800 fatalities worldwide in 2002 and 2003. The disease was dubbed “severe acute respiratory syndrome” (Sars). The new Sars-Cov-2 virus, first identified at the end of 2019 and causing the current pandemic, is closely related to that version from the beginning of the millennium.

Creator in January 2019 of the first test in the world to identify covid-19, Drosten recalls that the animal transmitters of Sars-1 to humans were then martens and genets, small carnivorous mammals. “That is proven,” says the virologist. China massively raises these types of animals on farms for the fur industry and apparently also introduces wild martens in those hatcheries that previously could have fed on bats, the animal that is considered the most likely primary transmitter of the virus. Christian Drosten emphasizes that “in China, martens and genets are skinned alive” and that in this process “they scream in pain and expel aerosols that can cause the virus to infect humans.”

Too much work

The prestigious German virologist does not hide his surprise at the theories that circulate about the possibility that the global epidemic of covid-19 has its origin in these fur farms and confesses that until recently he had the “naive idea” that the breeding of martens and genets, as known and potential transmitters of the virus, were subjected to severe controls. «For me it was a finished story. I thought that this type of trade in animals had been banned and that it would never happen again and now the ‘Sars’ has returned ”, highlights the German specialist.

Regarding the possibility that COVID-19 is a laboratory product, Drosten points out that from a technical point of view it is absolutely possible, but comments “if someone has developed Sars-2 that way, I would say that it has been taken too much work ‘in creating a pathogen from scratch when modifications can be made with the original Sars. And to explain it graphically, he comments that “if I want to know if a car radio can improve its sound, I use an existing car and change the radio. Then I make the comparison. But it doesn’t occur to me to build a whole new car. That is, however, what has happened to Sars-2. The whole car is new.

That is why the theory of a laboratory accident as the origin of the coronavirus pandemic is for Christian Drosten “extremely unlikely.” And regarding the conspiracy formulas that the virus came from an evil secret laboratory, he points out that this question must be posed to the intelligence services. ‘But I don’t think at all that it came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. This is a serious academic institute ”, concludes the German expert.
