The Japanese government said it did not have enough diagnostic tests available to screen everyone on board immediately. Currently only a maximum of 300 people can be tested on board. Authorities expect to increase to 1,000 people a day by February 18, on the eve of the planned quarantine. The government intends in particular to call on universities and private companies.
According to the latest assessment available on Thursday, 218 people have tested positive so far, not to mention a contaminated quarantine officer when he came on board to question and follow the passengers.
