The coronavirus, Bjørn Guldvog | Fired with corona criticism: Then the health authorities gave a clear speech back

The government admits that it can be difficult with so many different media reports, but one question in particular made the health leaders answer with a strong shot.

Watch video of the question and what Stoltenberg and Guldvog answered:

It was at Wednesday’s press conference on the reopening of society that the topic of confusion that has been linked to the divisive message of reopening emerged.

There, Prime Minister Erna Solberg also acknowledged that the communication strategy can be difficult with so many different media reports and angles.

– It is difficult for us sometimes. There are lots of media reports every day, everyone here asks us and everyone else for views and then there are different reports. Then not everyone has read the whole case, or sees all the reservations that are involved, and then the communication strategy can be a bit difficult. I can understand Jonas Gahr Støre’s criticism of that, says Solberg.

But after a question from NTB, the representatives answered on stage with a clear speech.

– Then I think it will be difficult

The NTB journalist pointed out that Nakstad has talked about that we need well under 200 infected per day to reopen, while FHI chief physician Preben Aavitsland has stated that one can not look blindly at the infection rates, and that the number of hospitalizations is perhaps more important.

– You, Guldvog, have even said we can reopen at the end of May. Do you talk to each other at all, or do you just sit in the home office and cook this yourself?

– We talk together, we agree, and we communicate, and different aspects of what we have said are brought out. For example, I have said that we need to have an R-number below 1, but every time I have talked about R, I have said that the “R-number” is just one of several indicators, FHI director Camilla Stoltenberg answers and adds to the extent that it is in line with what Aavitsland and director of the Norwegian Directorate of Health, Bjørn Guldvog, have said.

– And also the fact that we need a low number of infected, it is a significantly different indicator in addition to the R-number. If we are to say all this every time, and it is to be highlighted every time, I think it will be difficult to communicate at all. But we will continue to say that “yes, we will look at more things”. We have to look at the big picture, and we agree on that, Stoltenberg adds.

After the FHI director had finished his answer, the press conference’s host would go on, but NTB’s journalist wondered if Guldvog would come up with his answer.

So did the director of health, who returned with a small ointment of force.

Labor and FRP critical

Prior to the press conference, both the Labor Party and the Green Party believed that the government must ensure order in the communication around the reopening of society.

Solberg (H) emphasized in the Storting on Wednesday that the government does not set a date for the progress of the reopening because there are so many uncertainties.

– It is wise not to set a date. The last thing people need now are new downturns, said FRP deputy leader Sylvi Listhaug after Solberg had presented the plan to the Storting.

In recent days, there have been several statements in the media about the reopening rate.

The management in FHI believed that the R-number must be below 1 for weeks and perhaps months before the country can reopen, while the message from the Norwegian Directorate of Health was that the number of corona cases must be well below 200 per day. The director of health also said that the first step in the reopening could start at the end of May.

The proposals contribute to confusing people, said Labor leader Støre. He urged the government to have control over communications.

– When no date has been set, one should not give the impression that it is a clock that is ticking, he said.
