Two weeks before the date agreed for the start of the Copa América 2021, Conmebol reported this Sunday night that it decided to suspend the organization in Argentina and that the contest will be played in another country. “Conmebol informs that in view of the present circumstances it has resolved to suspend the organization of the Copa América in Argentina. Conmebol analyzes the offer of other countries that showed interest in hosting the continental tournament. News in this regard will be announced shortly” , was the message published at 22.44 this Sunday.
When everything seemed to indicate that Argentina was going to assume the complete organization of the Copa América after Colombia came down as co-organizer due to social problems, even leaving aside the chance to add another country to take charge of the matches that were to be disputed in the Colombian headquarters, the serious numbers of coronavirus infections in the country in recent weeks led to the decision to remove the organization from Argentina.
