The Controversy Surrounding KFC’s Popular Buckets in the Czech Republic: Customer Complaints and Social Media Reactions

Fast food Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has become popular in the Czech Republic. Among his most popular products, without a doubt, are the buckets. Either the classic ones or the limited and special ones.

PrahaIN.cz noticed the long-term advertising of this American chain on social networks. And she noticed the reactions too. The particular ad reminded that if a customer buys a large bucket, they will receive a game of Kentucky Duo.

The problem wasn’t so much that a popular game was available “while supplies last” but rather the quality of the bucket’s contents. There was quite a bit of controversy over that in the discussion thread.

“Bought a big bucket today. The strips looked terrible at first glance, as if someone already had them, they were not fried properly. The breadcrumbs were dull, on some pieces there was not much of it, horror,” said one of the commentators under the post on Facebook. “Thanks for the comments and sorry if the order was not correct,” was the response from the fast food chain.

It is worth noting that he addressed both positive and purely negative reactions.

Other responses related to payment, for example.

“It would be enough to get everything I pay for. And not to find out at home that the staff ‘can’t’ count,” said another writer. “If there was any problem with the order, you can certainly contact colleagues at the restaurant directly. Or contact us with the receipt in a private message, we’ll take a look at it,” the KFC chain responded again.

Effective advertising

However, the negative responses continued to increase even more than a week after the publication of the ad. PrahaIN.cz followed the quoted opinions the entire time.

“We did not receive any game, today the order was returned in its entirety. More than three things are missing every time. Complaints are dealt with in the style: ‘Nothing happened’. But I had to pay for it. I don’t know if it’s like that everywhere, but KFC Rohlenka (in Brno) is one big disaster. Not to mention the courier. Repeatedly he didn’t have it to return, he rudely tells me that he doesn’t have it back. So I tell him I’ll be paying by card and he cheekily tells me how much to tip there. KFC responded as with previous posts: “We’ll take a look.”

We asked marketing specialist Petr Janda if similar advertising on the social network Facebook has any effect. “If the advertisement provokes a discussion, it has an effect,” he responded briefly for PrahaIN.cz.

“I don’t know the targeting, I don’t know the exact investment, but I don’t think KFC has dilettantes paying for something that doesn’t work,” he added.

We tried to find out directly from the press department how satisfied the chain is with this particular ad. But the reaction did not reach the publication.
