Mexico City. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador closed the controversy after the statements of the head of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the Attorney General’s Office, Felipe de Jesús Gallo Gutiérrez, who a few days ago assured that Mexico “is a champion.” in the production of fentanyl.
After the apology made yesterday by the official himself, who pointed out that he used an “inappropriate word,” the federal president noted this morning in his conference at the National Palace: “I agree with what the Prosecutor’s Office reported and I stick with that.” . “There are times when we use words that are not appropriate, it happens to all of us.”
-Is there confidence in Gallo Gutiérrez to continue leading the AIC? -he asked him.
“Yes, and the Prosecutor’s Office has already reported on the issue,” the president said.
He considered that the statements by the head of the AIC at an international conference that took place last Tuesday in Mexico City were not in bad faith.
“I think there was some kind of seminar, a congress, and it was his turn to speak, and since he is involved in the subject, they are addressing the issue of control of chemical precursors, well he used one word, no, I think he said that we were champions (…) but it was not in bad faith.
“Of course it was eight columns, right? (in some media). That did take it, because… but let’s also not blame the press, the thing is that if I say here, that’s why I speak even more slowly, if I say a word, a controversial term, I already know that there are going to be eight columns. So, I prefer that I appear on page 34 of a C section newspaper, not on the front page, much less in eight columns.”
The federal president stressed that the FGR, together with federal government agencies, work in a coordinated manner to have control over inputs and chemical precursors that are used for the production of drugs.
“They are doing a very good job in that sense, with the Navy, with Cofepris, with other government agencies.”
