The cover drawing dates from 1963, was published by Éditions Dargaud and measures 32×17 centimeters. The value is estimated at 400,000 to 500,000 euros. The seller, a private individual, claims that he has owned the work for more than fifty years. Uderzo is said to have given it to his father at a dinner among friends at Uderzo’s home, the auction house said.
With the complaint, Sylvie Uderzo primarily wants to prevent the work from being sold, says her lawyer Orly Rezlan. They want to use the extra time to investigate the circumstances of the donation and “possibly even recover the work in the long term”.
Arnaud de Partz, director at auction house Millon Belgium, says he has been informed of the complaint, but has not yet received it. It is uncertain whether the auction will be able to continue.
