In the TV24 program “Actual about the military operations in Ukraine”, Jānis Slaidiņš, NBS major, National Guard staff officer presents information about the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Oleksandr Sirski.
Slaidiņš states that Sirskis is the only one in the Ukrainian army with the rank of colonel general, born on July 26, 1965, received military education at the school of the highest command staff in Moscow.
He has been participating in military conflicts in Ukraine since 2014 and his military operations are the defense of Kiev and then the most brilliant operation of the armed forces, which is the liberation of the Kharkiv region and also the defense of Bakhmut. The Pentagon has said that the president of Ukraine has the right to decide who will lead the Ukrainian armed forces and that the US side will work effectively with the new commander.

But “The Economist” after receiving new posts writes that this general is ready to engage in battles with the enemy even when it will cost a great loss of manpower and combat equipment. He is a controversial figure, evoking mixed reactions among officers, some praising his professionalism, others saying he intimidates his subordinates. He is less inclined to question the president’s decisions. In this position, he will need to soften the style of the team and learn to speak the truth to higher political power.
At the moment, various news are appearing in the information space, for example, that Svirski’s mother praised Putin in 2021, but Slaidins points out that the truth of these facts has not been verified and he believes that the Ukrainian political leadership did not put an untested candidate who could turn out to be a traitor in such a responsible position.
