A photo shoot for the men’s magazine Maxim nearly cost Melissa Joan Hart her starring role in the TV series in the late 1990s Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. The American actress reveals this in the podcast Pod Meets World.
“I arrived at a party and then my lawyer asked if I had done a photo shoot for Maxim“, the now 47-year-old actress recalls.
“So I said yes. And then I was told I was fired and I couldn’t talk to the press.” Hart starred in the series about a teenage witch who lives with her witching aunts for seven seasons.
Into the photos Maxim Hart posed in her underwear and became “Sabrina, your favorite witch without a stitchThis went against the contract Hart had signed, which stated that she was not allowed to appear naked as the character.
Hart’s mother, also her producer, then called to ask what she had done. “I don’t know, just what I was told. I have a photo shoot for it Maxim done. Of course I had to pose in my underwear for that,” the actress replied.
Hart was able to save her role in the series by writing a letter of apology to the producers, who accepted her back in favor.
