The Controversial Alvarez Report on Audit of Banque du Liban: A Demand from Representative Jamil Al-Sayed

Representative Jamil Al-Sayed tweeted on his account via “Twitter”, writing: “At my request from the Minister of Finance, hand me a copy of Alvarez Company’s report on the criminal audit of the accounts of the Banque du Liban.”

He added, “Today I received his official answer in the picture below, in which he states that he is unable to deliver the report to me in view of the “conditions” agreed upon by the Lebanese government in the agreement with Alvarez to keep the report confidential, not only to the Lebanese, but even to the House of Representatives, the judiciary and the rest of the ministers… He adds The Minister of Finance stated that he did not sign the ill-fated agreement on his own except after the approval of the government and the relevant authorities in the state, and he adds that he recently wrote to Alvarez to obtain its approval to publish the report, otherwise he fears that if he circulated it without its permission, it would claim against the Lebanese state, which would cost us exorbitant sums!!

And Al-Sayed continued, “My question: How much are the exorbitant sums?! Are you afraid of a lawsuit that will cost us one or two million dollars, while 74 billion dollars have evaporated from the Bank of Lebanon and its governments?”

And he said, “The report circulated, Your Excellency, and do not be afraid, and if Alvarez sues you, we will find donors for the costs of the lawsuit and at my personal responsibility.”
