The hockey stick in the hands of Jacob Trouba turned into a weapon.
With a sharp swing, he attacked Boston’s Trent Frederic with his tool and hit him in the helmet. He surprisingly earned only a financial penalty for his attack and the fans are angry.
His aggressiveness on the ice was recognized by more than one attacker in the elite competition, and after clashes with Trouba, many players ended up on the long-term injured list. But now the American defender really overdid it.

In a tense meeting between the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins (7:4), he used a hockey stick to hit Frederic in the head and his attack could have ended in serious injury.
Nevertheless, Trouba did not receive a two-minute penalty or an additional suspension. He received only a fine of 5 thousand dollars from the disciplinary commission. Check out his short in the match:

Considering Trouba’s hockey salary, we can consider the amount of the fine to be ridiculous. The experienced defender is one of the best-paid Rangers players and earns eight million dollars a year. After the decision of the disciplinarian, a wave of criticism descended on the NHL.
“This is a joke,” read one of the reactions to the amount of the fine on the social network X (formerly Twitter). “Player protection? I’ve never heard of that one,” added one commenter. “You’re laughable,” added another.
Given the amount of salaries of players in the NHL and such punishments, it is not surprising that similar aggressive outbursts may increase in the future.
