Between May 25-27, 2016, nine patients diagnosed with morbid obesity were operated on at the Craiova Emergency Clinical Hospital by joint teams of surgeons from Craiova and from the Integrated Morbid Obesity Treatment Center in France.
The first operation was performed on May 25. A 33-year-old woman from the same group of operated patients – with a similar diagnosis – was discharged and then returned to the hospital in a very serious condition, and laboratory tests indicated the same thing: serious infections taken from the hospital.

“The Sanitary Inspection notified the College of Physicians regarding the nine operations performed with the support of foreign doctors at the Craiova Emergency Hospital. The inspectors also notified the National Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices regarding the use of devices and consumables in these operations. The responsibility for obtaining the approvals, respectively for the documentation related to the medical devices belongs to the County Hospital, not to the doctors from France “, it is specified in the communiqué of the Ministry of Health.
The Minister of Health, Vlad Voiculescu, asked the Control Body of the Ministry to perform checks at the Craiova County Emergency Clinical Hospital.
“The Minister condemns any action that could cast doubt on the international cooperation between Romanian hospitals and foreign specialists. The intensification of this cooperation is one of the priorities of his mandate, partnerships with hospitals abroad and cooperation between Romanian and foreign doctors proving countless times beneficial. for Romanian patients “, it is also shown in the communiqué.
