The contract for the design of units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy NPP-Agro Plovdiv has been signed – 2024-11-04 12:29:00

Within a year, it will be clear how much the investment will cost us

Within a year, an exact schedule will be prepared for the construction of the two new nuclear units in Kozloduy NPP – seventh and eighth, as well as an accurate account of the cost of the entire project. After this period, the Minister of Energy must submit a report to the National Assembly and it must make a final investment decision.

This was explained by the Acting Minister of Energy, Vladimir Malinov, after it was signed today the contract for engineering between Kozloduy NPP – New Powers and the Westinghouse – HC D&C consortium to develop the final project for the construction of two new AP-1000 reactors, Sega reported.

Malinov described the project for the new nuclear facilities in Kozloduy as “irreversible” and predicted that it could be implemented in less than the planned 10 years.

The South Korean “Hyundai Engineering and Construction” was selected to conduct negotiations for a potential builder for the engineering, construction, delivery and commissioning of units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy NPP with the AR 1000 technology of the American “Westinghouse”. The company was also approved by the deputies.

Between 350 million and 370 million dollars will cost the engineering project, which will cost the construction of the new two blocks within a year, and this amount is within the general budget.

Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov announced that the proceeds from the sale of the equipment from the Belene NPP to Ukraine will be used for the realization of the 7th and 8th units of the Kozloduy NPP. On October 16, the National Electric Company and the Bulgarian Energy Holding sent the Ukrainian side the final proposal for the so-called general conditions.
