Last year’s unexpected return of the legendary Monkey Island series was a great success for the creators, at least judging by the enthusiastic reactions of players and reviewers (for example on the aggregator Opencritic with Return to Monkey Island boasting a high score of 87/100). Owners of smartphones with the iOS and Android operating systems will soon also go on a nostalgic trip to the past in a successful graphic jacket. The mobile version is coming out soon, on July 27th, and those who can’t wait can pre-order it now.
The spiritual father of the brand, Ron Gilbert, was personally involved only in the first two games. After his departure from the LucasArts studio in the early nineties, two more sequels were created. He returned to the series many years later, in 2009, when he helped create the Tales of Monkey Island episodic series from Telltale Games as a consultant. Over the following years, he repeatedly expressed a desire to create a sequel over which his team would have complete creative control. 2019 was successful, when work started on the spectacular return to Monkey Island. Return to Monkey Island arrived on PC and consoles three years later and successfully captured the magic of its predecessors.

The famous adventure series Monkey Island does not appear on the screens of mobile phones for the first time. In special editions years ago, the first part of The Secret of Monkey Island and the sequel Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge arrived in the App Store. The mentioned episodic series Tales of Monkey Island from the Telltale Games studio, which has, for example, the award-winning adventure game Walking Dead. However, after the demise of the studio in 2018, it also disappeared from digital distribution, only to return to it three years later under the banner of a new owner.
