The container stadium from the World Cup becomes a home for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey

Some of the containers from the iconic Qatar World Cup stadium – 974 will be sent to Turkey and Syria for temporary housing for people affected by the devastating earthquake. This is claimed by Turkish media citing government sources.

In fact, some of the containers were donated by Turkey to make the first ever movable stadium.

Qatar had planned to gift it to Uruguay if South America’s bid for the 2030 tournament was approved. However, the earthquake changed everything.

Stadium 974, because that’s how many containers there are and it’s Qatar’s phone code, hosted the Arab Cup in 2021 as well as 7 World Cup matches, including the Brazil-Korea 4-1 Round of 16.

Qatar has pledged to supply more than 10,000 temporary homes to the victims outside of financial aid to Turkey and Syria.
