The General Director of Events and Sports Facilities of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, isabella sanchezattended this Monday morning at the Javier Imbroda Sports City of Malaga at the inauguration of ‘The Container’a new sports space dedicated to CrossFit, with more than 1,200 m2 of surface area.
Isabel Sánchez highlighted in her speech, after the ribbon-cutting of the space’s inauguration, that “it is a special day, because we inaugurate, in this facility that bears the name of one of the people who has done the most in recent years for sport Andalusian and national, a new outdoor space that will increase the sports offer for the citizens of Malaga”.
Sánchez also pointed out that “the new sports area will be dedicated to CrossFitto functional and intensity work, and by surface it is going to be in the national top of the more than 600 currently officially registered”.
The general director also commented that ‘The Container’ is “the only one with a seven-meter-high rope-climbing structure and its design and configuration are exclusive in Europe and with influences from the most avant-garde spaces currently in the US, the country of origin of the practice”.
‘The Container’ will be available for use on a regular basis for more than 65 people in the different workstations available. Its equipment and software are designed for high performance, as well as for the development of top-level international events. Configured exclusively by international leading companies in this sector, such as Eleiko or Technogym, official suppliers of the International Olympic Committee in more than ten Olympic Games.
This new space dedicated to CrossFit is located in the facility in the place of a previous one with four wall paddle tennis courts that had low performance and use by athletes. Thus, an area is converted that plans to double the number of subscribers that existed in that place, and go from 200 to 475.
The origin of this sport modality can be found in 1995 when Greg Glassman opened the first center for the sports practice of what he called CrossFit, in the American city of Santa Cruz, California. But the dissemination and promotion of this sport began in the year 2000 with the creation of the CrossFit trademark.
As for Spain, in 2011 there were 6 boxes dedicated to CrossFit, which increased to 100 in 2014 and there are currently more than 600 affiliated boxes. The success of this discipline can be explained by the fact that it is aimed at all kinds of people, regardless of age and physical condition. It is a sport for everyone, in which each exercise is adapted to each person, so that each one can gradually progress.
