The construction of the Haarlemmermeer town hall will cost at least 71 million

The construction of the new town hall in Haarlemmermeer will be much more expensive than expected. The city council asked the Giunta for an additional 14 million euros, bringing the total expenditure to 71.7 million euros. This makes it one of the most expensive town houses in the Netherlands.

The main causes for the cost increase are the rising cost of building materials and the addition of a roof garden. Money is also needed to check whether a terrace at the café is possible: “Such a terrace contributes to the liveliness of the square,” says councilor Charlotte van der Meij.

In 2020, the city council still assumed that the town hall would cost €57.5 million. “And even then today’s amount is not tomorrow’s amount,” said Van der Meij. According to NH News it therefore alludes to a further increase in spending.

Next summer, an additional amount will probably be needed for the demolition of the cellars under the old town hall. There is also the possibility that a large amount of asbestos will be found during the demolition.
