– I do not find a single coherent sentence from Vedum about what he wants with the police, says Bård Ludvig Thorheim (H) to NTB.
The statement comes in response to an interview Vedum did with NTB ahead of the Center Party’s official election campaign opening at Nordkapp on Monday.
In the interview, the SP leader criticized, among other things, the local police reform, which according to him has led to “the centralization of the Norwegian police of all time”.
– I react strongly to what Vedum says about the police, Thorheim answers to NTB.
He points to one chronicle as Chief of Police Heidi Kløvstad in Nordland Police District wrote in June. There, Kløvstad maintained that the police in Nordland meet the requirements for response time, and that the local police today have “a more robust preparedness” than ever before.
– Vedum says the exact opposite of what the police chiefs themselves in northern Norway say. So who should we listen to? I have more confidence in the police, says Thorheim.
Vedum, for his part, believes that the Conservatives should listen more to the shop stewards in the police, and less to the bosses.
– The shop stewards in the police have been clear that there has been a violent centralization of the police. At the same time, the bureaucracy in the directorate is just firing, he says.
