The Consequences of the PKK Activity Ban for Refugees and Politically Active Kurds

Today the lawyer Roland Meister is a guest on the Çira Report program moderated by Ayfer Özdogan. Roland Meister from the law firm of Attorney Meister and Partner from Gelsenkirchen was already representing the Berxwedan publishing house and the Kurd-HA news agency as a lawyer at the time of the ban on activity against the PKK by the then Federal Minister of the Interior, Manfred Kanther, in 1993.

In the announcement for the program, the editorial team writes: “Imagine fleeing persecution, repression and torture in a democratic country and applying for asylum. The BAMF there recognizes the repression and torture, but believes they are deserved. As if this were not enough, the information from the asylum procedure is made available to the law enforcement authorities. Now all the arguments given are used against you and you are accused of membership in a terrorist organization abroad. This case, as incredible and scandalous as it may sound, is really happening right now. A young Kurd’s reasons for asylum are now becoming his downfall; he is threatened with the same fate from which he fled. Today we are talking to the lawyer Roland Meister about this special case and will then clarify in detail what consequences the PKK activity ban has for refugees or politically active Kurds.”
