“The Consequences of Brexit for Triathletes: Lucy Charles Forced to Withdraw from European Competitions”

Last February 1, 2020 the famous «Brexit“, which meant the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union, losing from that moment its status as a Member State of the European Union. A very controversial political decision that has brought nothing but problems to millions of its inhabitants, especially those who, due to their profession, have to travel outside their country.

Well now the consequences of this Brexit have claimed its first great victim in the Triathlon: Lucy Charles. The multiple IRONMAN podium and recent bronze medal at the PTO European Openhas not managed even with the best lawyers to knock down the obligation that is imposed through the “Schengen Area” of be within your country for a minimum of 90 days within a 180-day calculation. In other words, within a period of half a year, you cannot spend more than three consecutive months outside the United Kingdom. Charles is a triathlete who used to train in Lanzarote as well as compete in Europe, she is now considered a foreign resident, so she has to abide by these rules that her compatriots have voted for.
