The Consell continues to issue free time education certificates for children and young people despite the pandemic

As reported by the Consell this Tuesday in a press release, the Department of Economic Promotion and Local Development and the Insular Directorate of Youth continue to grant certificates in children’s and youth leisure that offer an opportunity to young people between 18 and 21 years of age to enter the workplace.

In 2019, a total of 938 certificates were processed; of these, 84 were director, and 854 monitor. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the number of certificates decreased in 2020.

It should be remembered that, during a good part of the first semester of 2020, the state of alarm forced the paralysis of economic and social activity, and there were no training courses. However, the insular institution has specified, a total of 476 certificates were processed, 441 for free time monitor and 35 for free time management. These figures would be equivalent to a total of 119 titles in entertainment management and 1,295 of monitors in the last two years.

The Consell has considered that free time is “essential” for a society that shares values ​​of collaboration and responsibility, and a way for children and young people to maintain quality and safe socialization spaces. For this to be possible, he added, the work carried out by leisure professionals is “essential”.

On the other hand, the Consell has indicated that the Youth Service works so that the educational leisure experiences continue to help to better pass this epidemiological situation.

Along these lines, it should be remembered that the last campaign of the Mallorca Island Youth Service which, under the slogan ‘Lleure segur, unstoppable experiences’, aimed to support and promote the educational leisure sector while respecting the established safety regulations.

ADAPTED COURSES FROM SUMMER 2020

Normally, the option of taking online courses in the theoretical parts is given, up to a maximum of 33%, and it could not exceed 50% of each module. But, due to the state of alarm caused by COVID-19, the conditions of the courses have had to adapt.

Thus, now, two of the three theoretical modules can be carried out online, but maintaining the third theoretical module and face-to-face practices, always respecting all security measures.

The training schools must continue to present the annual programming of the planned courses, as well as the start of each course and the list of students who have passed the training to the Insular Youth Directorate.

Specifically, a total of 50 free time education courses for children and youth have been planned from October 2020 to September 2021. Of these, nine are management courses in free time and 45 to train monitors, with 25 places per course. Still, the number of courses may continue to increase in the coming months. ABOUT THE COURSES

On the one hand, the free time monitor course seeks to prepare students to intervene in an educational way in the activities carried out. Form so that they are able to organize, stimulate and evaluate child and youth leisure activities within the framework of the general programming of an entity.

On the other hand, the free time management course, once the previous one has been obtained, prepares to intervene in team coordination tasks in child and youth free time activities. In this case, it is formed to assume the creation, control and dynamization of the teams of monitors, in addition to managing and evaluating educational leisure projects.
