Is your glass half full or half empty?
The world is divided into optimists and pessimists. Representatives of both “camps” tirelessly argue about who is better, and, probably, this dispute can continue indefinitely. Modern researchers only add fuel to the fire by studying optimists and pessimists from all sides and trying to figure out the disadvantages and advantages of both views of the world. Recently, scientists from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studied data from 3,500 Americans. Volunteers, whose ages ranged from 32 to 51 years, had to take a special survey on their level of optimism and rate the quality of their sleep. Some of the participants in the experiment had to wear bracelets to help estimate the number of movements at night. After analyzing the results, experts were able to conclude that people who call themselves optimists suffer much less from insomnia, get better sleep and feel more alert during the daytime. Scientists have not yet been able to establish what exactly causes this relationship between sleep quality and optimism.
