Italian skier Sofia Goggio triumphed in a sovereign way in Friday’s opening run of the World Cup season.
At the Canadian resort of Lake Louise, she had a lead of 1.47 seconds ahead of the second American Breezy Johnson. Third was Austrian Mirjam Puchnerová (+1.54).
American Mikaela Shiffrin finished 26th, scored 5 points and retained the position of leader in the overall standings of the prestigious series. Slovakia was not represented in the competition. The defender of the big globe Petra Vlhová decided to focus on rotating disciplines before the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. The next one will be presented on December 21 in a giant slalom in Courchevel, France.
Goggio successfully set out to defend the small globe in the congress. She already has 12 championships in the World Championships, 9 of which she won in the royal alpine discipline. Johnson improved her personal best in second place, having been third four times so far. Puchner recorded her third podium finish in her career.
From other adepts for the overall championship in the World Championships, the Italian Federica Brignone took 13th place. Swiss Lara Gutová-Behrami finished the race in 17th place.
