The condition of Rob de Nijs, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, is rapidly deteriorating: “These trolls should know what it takes to live”

Rob de Nijs’ situation is deteriorating rapidly. The Dutch singer, who has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for a long time, cannot do much physically anymore, according to his wife.

The singer is also doing much less physically since he spent months in hospital and rehab last year after suffering multiple pulmonary embolisms. “We hardly go out anymore and we don’t mix with people anymore. We don’t allow many visitors at home, because what added value would he have for Rob?” said Jet de Nijs in an interview. “His condition is deteriorating rapidly now. Down and then, finally, it will be death.”

According to his wife, the 81-year-old singer is still clinging to life. “Years ago, Rob once said that if he really doesn’t feel like it, he wants to choose euthanasia. But he’s so hung up on life that I don’t see him doing that,” said Jet. “I think – I hope – that the candle will just go out at some point on someone. And that this can happen at home.”

In the interview, Jet de Nijs also criticizes the comments of anonymous trolls on social media. “They write: ‘Rob is ready for death, but no, she won’t let him go.’ They should know what Rob wants to live,” she said. “Also: how dare they… what are they putting in? This is about life and death, things that belongs within the closeness of a family. It does not belong to other people.”
