The Concorde: From the Skies to the Hudson and Beyond

The Concorde was back on the road, Wednesday August 9, in New York. Exhibited at the Intrepid Museum since its last flight in 2003, the fastest commercial plane in the world, which linked London to New York in less than three hours, took a trip down the Hudson… from the deck of a barge.

A journey of about ten kilometers aimed at connecting the Brooklyn shipyard, which has far from gone unnoticed. But if this trip has given New Yorkers the desire to (re-) see this plane more closely, we will have to be patient. The Concorde will undergo a major renovation project, which should last three months.

According to “ Daily record “, “the restoration process will consist of removing its paint coating by stripping it down to bare metal, sanding it down and then covering it with its original colors and markings”.

A mythical plane

The Concorde took off for the first time on Sunday March 2, 1969, from Toulouse-Blagnac airport, in front of a crowd of journalists and onlookers. It must be said that its launch is an event: the commercial aircraft is “supersonic”, that is to say that it is capable of spinning at twice the speed of sound.

The plane quickly became legendary, but a tragic accident that claimed the lives of 113 people on July 25, 2000 precipitated the “white bird” into oblivion. Concorde’s last commercial flights with Air France landed at Roissy on May 31, 2003.
