On October 30, in the “Fantadrom” in Jauna Teika, the Latvian Radio Big Band (LRBB) will continue cooperation with representatives of popular music, this time playing with one of the founders of hip-hop in Latvia, rapper Ozola.
The program includes popular songs from various rapper Ozola albums, which have been released since the beginning of this century, when he began his stage career as a soloist. For example, in 2001 the album “Dieņa un mīlestība” was released, from which the songs “Bokss”, “Rajons” and “Neko 2005” will be heard in the concert; a year later, Ozols released the album “Higher, Farther, Stronger”, the most popular hit of which “OZOLS” will be performed in concert; “Superhaips” is included in the 2015 album “Back to the Future”, but in recent years the hits “Style” and “Personality Record”, etc. have gained popularity. The oak songs will sound in new sounds, they are arranged by pianist and composer Ritvars Garoza especially for the big band. The rapper admits that this will be a new experience for him, but he has no doubts about the successful result: “I hope that we will be able to transfer special energy and emotions to the listeners at the concert. The local hip hop meets the Latvian Radio big band… And you say that miracles do not happen !? ”
LRBB artistic director Kārlis Vanags admits that the collaboration with Ozols has taken place, marking the twentieth anniversary of the rapper’s debut album: “It might seem – what do Ozols and the Latvian Radio big band have in common? But jazz and hip-hop have a lot in common, albeit purely historically – both genres have emerged in very similar circumstances. The harmonies and rhythms typical of jazz music can often be heard in the accompaniments of hip-hop songs, and it would be very difficult for me to imagine a modern jazz musician who would not have been influenced by hip-hop. ”
