The concept of the future electric model it was to be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show in April. However, the presentation was postponed due to the new pandemic wave that hit China. Now, however, the Wolfsburg company has officially announced that it will unveil the concept on June 27.
According to VW representatives, the production model will be launched first in China in the second half of next year. Towards the end of 2023, versions for Europe and North America will also debut. The latter will be produced at the Emden plant (Germany).
The new model will be built on the MEB modular platform dedicated to electric vehicles. Aesthetically, it will take details from the other models in the ID range, including ID.4 and ID.Buzz.
The ID.Aero series version will offer a range of 700 km
The announcement of the Germans was also accompanied by a design sketch with the prototype that foreshadows the future middle class electric sedan. The digital image reveals the rear of the concept, where the LED taillights stand out in the form of a light strip that stretches across the width of the car.
It can also be seen that ID.Aero displays a fluid and very aerodynamic silhouette, large rims and a huge glazed surface. In addition, the vehicle was designed without door handles, but this design detail will not be found on the production version.
According to Volkswagen, the ID.Aero concept measures 5 meters in length. That means it’s longer than the late Passat (4.77 meters). The teaser image comes three months after the Germans unveiled a sketch of the front of the car.
The technical specifications have not yet been disclosed. However, given that it will use the MEB platform, the future ID.Aero is expected to receive an 84 kWh battery, which should give the sedan a range of up to 700 kilometers. The debut of the series model is planned for 2023.
