The complaint of a Crevillent company leads the Civil Guard to dismantle a network of cybercriminals based in Manresa

The complaint from a company crevillent has led to the Civil Guard to deploy an operation, supervised by the Court of Instruction number 3 of Elche, in which a group of cybercriminals has been dismantled, who are accused of fraud against eleven companies from different Spanish provinces and seven users of websites dedicated to the sale of objects between individuals.

Twelve people have been arrested. All the arrests have been made in the Catalan municipality of Manresa.

The operation started last January as a result of a complaint by a Crevillente company that warned that it had suffered a cyberattack in which different emails sent to a provider had been intercepted, which after being modified to mislead, had resulted in a scam of more than 37,000 euros.

The investigations have identified ten more victims of the dismantled gang in seven Spanish provinces (Alicante, Madrid, Granada, Asturias, Murcia, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Malaga) and the economic amount of these scams amounts to 188,000 euros.

To launder the money, the criminals diverted the defrauded financial amounts to other bank accounts in Spain or Lithuania, or they acquired cryptocurrencies.

In addition, the Civil Guard has proven that the detainees, through the illegal use of the identity of an elderly person, and creating various profiles on websites dedicated to the sale of objects between individuals, had defrauded seven buyers of 2,800 euros. Balearic Islands, Burgos, Lleida, Valencia, Barcelona, Vizcaya and Gerona.
