“The FIFA executive committee unanimously approves the dossier Morocco-Spain-Portugal as a unique application for the organization of Football World Cup 2030″. The king of Morocco announced it from Rabat Mohammed VI in a statement released by the MAP agency. FIFA explained that the Executive has formalized the single candidacy of the three countries but has established that since 2030 is the Centenary edition (in Uruguay for the first time, in 1930) a celebratory ceremony will take place in Montevideo and three matches will they will dispute in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
“In a divided world, football unites”, explained the FIFA president,
Gianni Infantino,
underlining that the decision leads to playing in six countries on three different continents. “The FIFA Council, which represents the entire world of football, has unanimously decided to celebrate in the most appropriate way the centenary of the World Cup, the first edition of which was played in Uruguay in 1930. Consequently, a party in South America and three South American countries – Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay – will organize one match each of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The first of these three matches will obviously be played at the stadium where it all began, in the legendary Estádio Centenário in Montevideo, precisely to celebrate the centenary edition of the FIFA World Cup”.
And again: “Two continents –
Africa ed Europa – united not only in a celebration of football but also in providing a unique social and cultural cohesion. What a great message of peace, tolerance and inclusion. In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents – Africa, Europe and South America – six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay – will welcome and unite the world by celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup”, concluded the FIFA president.
For the first time, six teams qualified Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay have already qualified for the 2030 edition. This leaves 42 places to be won to be at the start of the first World Cup in history on three continents.
