As homeowners, we’ve all heard strange noises in our attic before, and most of us assume that it’s some small creature trying to make its nest in the insulation. But what happens when you discover that the noise you’re hearing is far from a furry, harmless creature? In this article, we’ll delve into a real-life horror story of one individual who thought they had an animal in their attic but discovered something far worse. Brace yourself for a chilling tale that will make you think twice before shrugging off those strange noises overhead.
Davis Wahlman, a resident of Green Lake, Washington, was left stunned after hearing strange noises coming from the roof of his home. He initially thought it might be animals but decided to investigate the matter. Wahlman climbed up to the door leading to his attic but was surprised to find it locked. Knocking a few times, he heard a woman call out “Jimmy? Is that you Jimmy?”. Wahlman came face-to-face with a complete stranger when a dark-haired woman opened the door. The woman had been living in his attic for three days.
According to KOMO News, Wahlman, who works for the news service, asked the woman, “Who the heck are you? Why are you in my house?”. To his surprise, the woman replied, insisting that it was actually her house. “This is my house. I live here. I’ve been here for three days. Jimmy said I could live here, Jimmy said I could stay here,” Wahlman claimed the woman told him. The situation became even more peculiar as Wahlman tried to engage the woman in conversation while waiting for the police to arrive, but they took nearly 20 minutes to reach him. By the time the police finally showed up, the woman had fled.
Wahlman was unnerved by the incident and had no idea how the woman had managed to get into his home. He later found some indications in the form of a window screen in his bath, and his fire escape ladder was hanging from the deck, something that the suspect likely found after entering the house. Wahlman said that nothing had been stolen, and very little was out of place. It is unclear whether he was at home the entire three days that the woman claims to have been “living” there. As a precautionary measure, he replaced all his locks after the incident.
The suspect was described as having dark, shoulder-length hair and was wearing gym pants with a black track-style jacket and a white hood. She also had a white-knit cap and carried a backpack. Police are continuing their investigation.
The incident has left Wahlman feeling both concerned and disappointed by the police response. He said, “To come into a house like this in this neighbourhood, that’s clearly being lived in, that’s bold.” While he explicitly supports the work of police officers and their efforts, he felt that 18 minutes was “a little disappointing” for a response time, especially when he was reporting a break-in, and the suspect was still on the property.
The incident may seem bizarre, but instances of people squatting in vacant homes, as well as unexpected or unwanted guests staying with homeowners, are, in fact, not uncommon. From accidental home invasions to cases of people living undetected within the walls or attics of people’s homes or apartments, homeowners and tenants have reported stories of strange occurrences over the years.
While home invasions are undoubtedly frightening and disruptive to people’s sense of safety and security, it is essential to remember that they are relatively rare occurrences. However, it is crucial to take precautions, such as securing windows and doors, when leaving the house, and being vigilant when it comes to strange or unexpected encounters. A little bit of vigilance and a healthy dose of skepticism can go a long way in preventing an unwanted guest from making themselves at home in someone else’s house.
