The commons propose to increase the number of social flats to 15% by 2030

Barcelona, Feb 9 (EFE) .- The commons has proposed this Tuesday to increase the public stock of social housing of all Catalan municipalities by 2030 to 15% and have accused the Govern of ERC and JxCat of lacking policies in this area: “On housing issues, they are neither there nor expected”.

This has been maintained during an electoral act in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) by the number two of En Comú Podem in the elections on February 14, Joan Carles Gallego, who has opted to increase the budget for housing policies until 1.5% of GDP to make Catalonia equal to the average of the European Union.

The training proposal for having a social housing stock “distributed throughout the territory”, especially in those areas where the market “excludes more families” or there is a greater risk of “gentrification and ghettoization”.

The distribution of the promotions, Gallego has detailed, would be carried out in such a way that they do not benefit only the large construction companies, with projects that are also within the reach of small promoters and cooperatives.

Likewise, the commons have advocated creating a Public Bank for the Financing of Rental Housing from expanded endowments from the Catalan Institute of Finance (ICF), as well as increasing the resources allocated to the Catalan Institute of Land (Incàsol) to turn it into the main public operator for the construction of social rental apartments.

They also seek to streamline public procurement regulations to generate officially protected housing and promote a Third Sector Public Operator that manages the private contribution to the construction of a protected housing park on public land.

“It is clear that neither ERC nor JxCat have housing policies”, denounced Gallego, who has opted for a “change” of paradigm and economic model that puts people “at the center.”

For his part, the first secretary of the Board of Congress, Gerardo Pisarello, has warned that Catalonia “cannot allow a new abnormality” nor “more speculation, precariousness and real estate bubbles”, for which he has called to abandon the ” dramatization “to act” effectively “and with” courage “in this matter.

The Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda, Ione Belarra, also took part in the event. She accused the Socialists of defending proposals “that are too similar to those of the real estate employers.”

“We defend the proposals of the Tenants Union, of the Platform for People Affected by Mortgages, of those who put their bodies in the other crisis to stop evictions. Those are the people who inspire us,” he remarked. EFE
