The European Union has once again shown its displeasure with the personal policy pursued by the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s visit to Georgia is taking place exclusively within the framework of the bilateral relationship between Hungary and Georgia, said Commission representative Nabila Masraly when asked about it at the briefing of correspondents in Brussels. He also underlined that Viktor Orbán has no mandate from the EU.
The representative of the Commission noted that with regard to the electoral process in Georgia, irregularities must be clarified and addressed.
Viktor Orbán had already celebrated the victory of the anti-European forces in the Georgian elections.
“THE people of Georgia know what is best for their country and made their voice heard today!” Orban had written to X.
However, Orban immediately congratulated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the Georgian Dream party on their “overwhelming victory” on Saturday — before the election results were even announced.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, as Politico writes, “visits Georgia today where he meets with the country’s prime minister, lending legitimacy to a government facing allegations of fraud after Saturday’s election.”
Brussels warned on Sunday of serious irregularities in the nationwide vote, in which the ruling Georgian Dream party attacked Western influence and threatened to ban rival parties. A few hours earlier, Tbilisi had announced that the Hungarian prime minister would start a two-day visit to Georgia on Monday.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, the bloc’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, said the weekend election in Georgia was set by “uneven playing field, a divisive campaign in a polarized atmosphere and significant concerns about the impact of recent legislative amendments on this election process”, in addition to allegations of intimidation and procedural irregularities.
