The Commission approves transferring resources from 10 million inactive Afores accounts to trust

Mexico City. With the vote of Morena and her allies, the Social Security Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved this afternoon the opinion so that the resources of the 10 million inactive retirement savings accounts be transferred to a trust, whose purpose pay a supplement to the pension of workers who contribute as of June 1997.

With 19 votes from the parliamentary majority and 10 against the opposition, the commission validated Morena’s initiative, which will be discussed in the plenary session of the chamber on Wednesday.

The coordinator of Morena, Ignacio Mier, stated that the proposal “is not an electoral measure,” while deputies from PRI and PAN stated that the transfer of resources “is a theft.”

Mier insisted that it was proposed to create the so-called pension fund for well-being “in order to strengthen and complement the decent pension and it is about achieving social justice for workers without financing from committed fiscal resources, but under the administration of a public trust. ”.
In contrast, deputy Patricia Terrazas (PAN) highlighted that the reform of the Social Security and ISSSTE pension system “does not have a financial run to support it” and pointed out that it is “another occurrence by Morena. “It leaves its financing subordinated to the existence of remainders and puts its hand to the workers’ savings.”
