The Coming Financial Hardship: Czechs Face Cut in Household Support and Tax Benefits for 2023

There are only a few days left until the end of the not very positive year 2023. Many are looking forward to the next one with great expectations. After all, even the top representatives of the state are saying that we have recovered from the worst and things should only get better.

Finances will turn sour

In reality, however, there is not much evidence of this. Next year will be marked by a large cut in support and finances for households. And there is no question of some posts that are only received by someone who is not feeling too well. This applies to everyone really and it is very strange that it is not talked about much.

This finding will be all the more harsh for many households. It is nothing less than the cancellation of a financial benefit worth CZK 17,300. This is exactly how much people could deduct from their taxes this year as part of the so-called kindergarten fees.

Practically all households use it, as kindergartens, even state ones, simply cost something. This contribution then largely covered the costs. At the same time, this is not a small amount of money at all, as this assistance comes to almost 1,500 crowns per month.

Wallets take a hit

At the same time, the consolidation package cancels it completely and without compensation. You will therefore no longer deduct this amount from your taxes and will therefore have to pay it out of your own pocket. It’s hard to imagine how you could manage without it. You can easily send your children to kindergarten. It is the cheapest and most accessible form of childcare when you need to go to work.

Therefore, it is hard to believe that the state resorted to such a step. “This is news to me and I must say that it is really negative. I don’t understand how anyone could think of hitting families in this way. We have been paying school fees in full for several years and now we will be unlucky,” says Mrs. Věra from Prague.

At the same time, this is not the only financial aid available to practically everyone, which the Czechs will have to say goodbye to. From a similar rank and heading in the same direction, there is also a limitation of the tax discount for the wife in the amount of some 25 thousand crowns per year. Only those who have a child under the age of three in their care will receive this.
