The knee injury has taken its toll on Khaddi Sagnia.
Already in place in the World Cup city of Budapest?
– Now it’s just wonderful feelings, says the long jump star.
Khaddi Sagnia nimbly picks up the phone, uses it as a mirror and says okay to the photographers.
Then the smile is big.
The feelings are also real, she confirms.
The joy of being at the World Championships in Athletics in Budapest and having overcome the knee injury that characterized the whole season is great.
“Give all you have got”
– It’s a big championship and of course I feel an insecurity, but since I came here I haven’t felt that. It’s just been wonderful feelings. It helps a lot to get the good energy and I’m just going to go in there and give it my all, not feel any stress or fear, she says about Saturday’s qualifier.
– I know what I can do, even though I haven’t trained. I know there are lengths in me. Are they coming out? We shall see.
The 29-year-old has had a tough season, to say the least. At the beginning of June, in Florence, she felt the pain in one knee. Despite the feeling, she chose to compete in Greece a couple of days later, but since then she has had to focus on rehab.
Sagnia even came close to ending the season prematurely, and standing over the WC in Budapest.
The support helped Sagnia
But from “near and dear ones”, as she says, she found strength to fight through cycling intervals and when last week’s was hopefully done without pain – then she decided to go to the WC.
– I really want to compete, I’ve been looking forward to this. Of course not with this background, but I have to make the best of the situation. However, I have been involved for several years, I have credentials, experience. I have to make the best of what I have, she says.
In the same qualifier, which starts at 12.25 on Saturday, Tilde Johansson and Maja Åskag are also included.
